Often life is just simple & enjoyable and this week is one of those weeks. Sometimes the pictures of the week, with just a little context, are enough to tell the story. This is one of those weeks and it has inspired a new segment on the blog, ‘The Week in Pictures.’
Mid week we noticed that the placards on the streets were polished and some had memorials placed on them. As a refresher, these placards are set into the cobble stones to memorialise the fallen families from WWII that perished in the concentration camps. We aren’t sure why this week was meant to place memorials but it was a nice reminder of the history and hardship of our Kiez.
On Friday Doreen and Logan met Chad at his office. Around the corner from the office is a summer farmer’s market where there’s a mix of lunch, produce, butcher and speciality stands. Doreen sampled the fresh grilled fish while Chad and Logan had a very unique sandwich called “Green Wood Toast.” Afterwards Logan got to play on one of the biggest playgrounds that we have seen yet. The slide is 2 stories tall and according to Doreen is lightning fast.
On Saturday we took a trip to a huge outdoor sports store - think mix of REI and Old Navy. However, not before Logan decided that Daddy’s shoes are Logan’s shoes.
Saturday night the sun was lighting the sky until well past 10:30. We snapped a picture at 10pm and couldn't believe how bright it still was. We haven't even reach the longest day of the year yet!
On Sunday (Father's Day) we went to Brlo (a craft beer garden) in Kreuzberg where Logan had a lot of fun playing on the outdoor trampolines and with the building blocks.
In the afternoon we headed to an outdoor area where they were serving food and beers for the first World Cup game Germany played in.
In case you were unaware, Germany is super excited about the World Cup. The grocery stores all give away collectable cards of the national players and everywhere you look there are reminders of the Cup. Most restaurants and gardens are providing open air viewings of the games. Germans are so excited that the urinals in the restrooms have goals to pee in.
We had a great week as a family and hope that you did as well.
Until Next Time,
The McNeills
